Tien Minh Nguyen night match with Arnold Setiadi brought in the local crowds who were expectant of a supreme performance from their local hero. The top seed duely delivered with a 21-9, 21-12 victory in just twenty minutes. Fauzi Adnan of Indonesia waits in Round 2.

Of the sixteen seeds in the men’s singles, all but two progressed. Sixth seed Pei Wee Chung of Malaysia was defeated Hoang Hai Nguyen 21-11, 21-12 in just under half an hour. The Nguyen name owned the limelight of the TV Court. 14th seed Suppanyu Avihingsanon also crashed out in Round 1, to Yogendran Krishnan of Malaysia in two sets, 21-12 and 21-11.

Flandy Limpele opened proceedings on the TV Court with a comfortable 21-15, 21-14 victory in the Mixed Doubles. In total just four seeds crashed out on the opening round of competition, tomorrow brings the prospect of two matches in a day for the singles players.

Tien Minh Nguyen is the first singles match on court for Thursday, scheduled for a 10am local start. Another match potentially at 7pm would be his third in under 24 hours. Second seed Tedjono of Indonesia sailed through his opening match 21-11, 21-10 in exactly 20 minutes. He plays his second round match at 12.30pm and another match potentially at 7.30pm.

It is set to be the survival of the fittest this week in Vietnam, play resumes at 9am on Thursday local time.
