Taufik’s magical run this week brought him into the final against top seeded Lee Chong Wei, however the Malaysian was in no mood to let the fairytale have a dream ending. At 12-9 in the opening set, Lee Chong Wei took the next 9 points to win the opening set.
Taufik’s excellent start in the second set took him to a 7-1 led, which the top seed clawed back to make it 7-7. The second set was a much tighter affair, but at 16-14 Lee Chong Wei strung the next five points to take the second game at the title.
Ma Jin and Zheng Bo’s excellent form of the last few weeks continued with a superb win over Olympic Champions Lee and Lee of Korea. The three set encounter took just under the hour mark with the Singapore Super Series winners securing their second title in two weeks.
India’s Saina Nehwal outstanding run to the final gave her a chance at her first Super Series title with only 3rd seeded Wang Lin standing in her way. The signs looked didn’t look good for the 6th seed after Wang Lin won the first game 21-12. The 6th seed responded by winning the next game by 21 points to 18.
The Indian was not to be denied and was in devastating form from 7-7 in the third game, Nehwal took 14 of the next 16 points to take her first Super Series title.

It seems impossible for anyone to win the Indonesia Super Series (Indonesia Open) if you aren’t Indonesian. In days past it was Ardy Wiranata, Taufik Hidayat, and most recently Sony Dwi Kuncoro. Now Taufik is back in the final once again, and this time against the best possible opponent, Lee Chong Wei. I say the best possible opponent because Malaysia and Indonesia have feuded over badminton for years so it seems fitting for these two players to meet in this final.
Lee Chong Wei had a somewhat closer match against Chen Jin winning 21-15, 22-20 while Taufik had a somewhat smoother victory over his fellow countryman Sony Dwi Kuncoro winning 21-17, 21-14. The last time these two met was back at the Swiss Super Series where Lee Chong Wei just snuck out the win, but this time he is going to have thousands of screaming Indonesians to overcome. The smart money is on Taufik for this final.
The women’s singles will also feature some excitement with Wang Lin meeting the young Indian Saina Nehwal. Saina won a nailbiter of a match against Lu Lan sneaking by 25-23, 21-19. Wang Lin made it through much more comfortably beating Xie Xingfang 21-19, 21-13. Saina Nehwal is quite the rising star, and it would be very exciting to see her crack through the Chinese women’s dominance.
All in all I’m quite excited to see the results from tomorrow, I only wish I could be there!
