Tien Minh Nguyen goes into his national open as the overwhelming favourite to clinch the title, after winning the 2009 Vietnam Challenge. He starts his campaign against American Arnold Setiadl on Wednesday.

Setiadi is one of only a handful of players not native to Asia playing in the event; Raj Popat of Wales is another playing this week. Second seed Andre Kurniawan Tedjono comes into the event with a Quarter Final appearance in the Chinese Taipei GP Event in August, an event that Nguyen won.

The men’s singles event as a whole attracted 77 entries, with 192 players in total playing over the 6 days of the event. There is local interested rife throughout the draw, with several local players being seeded.

Top seeded Men’s Doubles pairing Lee and Choong from Malaysia had a good run at the China Masters Super Series event last month, reach the semi final stage. Second seeds Chan and Chew from Malaysia crashed out early from the China Masters, losing to unseeded Li and Shen from China in Round 1.
