Daren is out of action for the rest of year
There will be only 2 representative men’s singles players in the Hong Kong Open 2013 from the Malaysian camp. Malaysia number 3, Liew Darren who had just pulled out of the tournament yesterday; which is on the eve of the tournament. Liew Darren will begin his long rehabilitation programme who suffered a hamstring injury at the China Open last week. Liew Darren was tipped to meet top Japan’s player Kenichi Tago. Meanwhile, Lee Chong Wei and Chong Wei Feng will be meeting each other in the second if they managed a win over first round opponents; K. Srikanth of India and Sho Sasaki of Japan respectively.
In the qualifying rounds, newly formed Tan Wee Kiong-Vivian went down 18-21, 17-21 to Tang Chung Man-Ng Wing Yung of Hong Kong in their opening match. However, Chong Wei Feng is being optimistic about winning the gold at the Sea Games 2013 in December. As top players will be competing at the Super Series Finals in Kuala Lumpur. This is the first Sea Games for Chong Wei Feng after serving 8 years in the national team. The last Malaysian who won the Sea Games would former world number 1 Roslin Hashim in the 2001 edition.
Indonesia have the option of sending Tommy and two-time men singles champion Simon Santoso (2009 and 2011) for the SEA Games while Thailand may have to send some new faces.
