Tien Minh Nguyen survived a scare late this evening but still remains on course to retain his title after a three set victory over Daren Liew in a 70 minute epic, with Nguyen coming out on top 21-17 in the third set. The top seeds earlier match today was a routine two set victory over Fauzi Adnan in the morning.

Second seed Andre Kurniawan Tedjono also progressed to the last 8, surviving a scare in his round 3 encounter with Zi Liang Derek Wong, the Indonesian second seed eventually progressing 21-17 in the third set.

Seven of the eight players still in the draw are seeded in the top 10, only Chu Han Chou from Chinese Taipei remains in the draw that is unseeded.

Tomorrow begins the run towards the finals on Sunday; Tien Minh Nguyen plays 7th seed Pakkawat Vilailak of Thailand in the quarterfinals. 2nd seed Andre Kurinawan Tedjono plays fellow Indonesian Tommy Sugiarto for a place in Saturday’s semi final.
