England’s top seeded Carl Baxter failed to make it past the second round of this week’s Belgian International, falling to local player Marcel Reuter. Reuter did well to upset Baxter, but was unable to continue his run as he lost the next round to his countryman Yuhan Tan in three very close games 17-21, 25-23, 21-18. Another highly seeded player to suffer was third seeded Brice Leverdez from France. Leverdez lost to Denmark’s Rune Ulsing who had to go through qualifying. A surprise on paper, however, in spite of Ulsing’s lower ranking it’s not a huge surprise as the young Dane is a strong player. Ulsing’s teammate Christian Lind Thomsen disposed of France’s fourth seeded Mathieu Lo Ying Ping in two quick sets 21-11, 21-15. Lind Thomsen now plays Belgiums Yuhan Tan, while Ulsing will play the second seeded Marc Zwiebler from Germany in the semi-finals.
