Melbourne hosts the Australian Open next week and the seedings as well as the draws have been released. The seedings in the doubles categories are littered with local players from Australia and New Zealand but the singles draw is a more international affair.
Andrew Smith, Brice Leverdez and Matthieu Lo Ping Ying have travelled from their European bases to take part in next weeks Australian Open. Kristina Ludikova is the only European based player seeded in the women’s singles draw.
The Mens Singles draw can boast 7 of the top 50 players in the world, including World number 11 Yan Kit Chan. The Womens draw has 7 players from inside the top 100 in the world with top seed Pui Yin Yip ranked 22 in the world.
The main attractions in the doubles are the Mixed Doubles pairing of Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama and Hoi Wah Chau of Hong Kong, ranked 10 in the world. Sanave Thomas and Rupesh K.T. Kumar, world ranked 18 are the top seeds in the Mens Doubles.
Play begins on Wednesday at 1pm with the Womens Singles qualifiers.
