In one week the Denmark Open Super Series 2009 will begin, and I will be there to cover it in person for everyone in our community here on BVM. It should be very exciting, and we hope to bring you all sorts of cool videos, interviews, and something else very special if everything goes according to schedule.
The draws for the event are now available, and it appears that pretty much all of the big names are present with the exception of Lee Chong Wei and Taufik Hidayat. With the absence of the world’s top ranked player Lee Chong Wei, Lin Dan will be the first seed and Peter Gade will be second seed. Gade has a challenging draw, meeting Hafiz Hashim second round, Bao Chunlai in the quarters and Sony Dwi Kuncoro in the semis. On the top half Lin Dan has a seemingly easier draw ahead of him, although the three time world champion seems capable of handling anything thrown at him. Lin Dan will face Simon Santoso in the quarter finals, and his teammate Chen Jin in the semi-finals.
China also has a strong contingent in the women’s singles with 4 players in the main draw, and another two likely to come through the qualifying rounds. While not threats to the title, Charmaine Reid and Nicole Grether won’t be happy as the doubles team have been drawn to play each other in the first round of the singles. Elizabeth Cann on the other hand will be happy to see that Malaysia’s Wong Mew Choo has pulled out of the tournament leaving Cann through to the second round where she will likely meet second seed Wang Yihan.
Stay tuned, when the tournament starts October 20th we will be there to bring you all the results.
