Right now the mixed doubles is on here in Laval. Not the biggest mixed doubles fan, but that’s the price you pay when you go into the consolations, you have to wait around for all the other matches to play. Anyway, no major upsets so far today. Tommy McKee lost to Martin Giuffre in the round of 16, but not the biggest surprise as Martin has been playing some solid badminton lately.

Tomorrow we have the following line up for the mens singles quarter finals:
Dabeka vs Liang
Rogers vs Foley
Gaumond vs Wojcikiewicz
Giuffre vs Snider

Snider was looking particularly sharp/ruthless today as he beat the rising star Nyl Yakura 21-4, 21-9! I didn’t see the game, but I have seen Yakura play, and he isn’t the kind of kid that gets beaten that badly often.

While I don’t really comment much on the doubles, there was a pretty exciting match featuring former world number one Ardy Wiranata who was playing with one of his students Darren Hong. Wiranata and Hong defeated the 3/4 seeds Derrick Ng and Adrian Liu in close three games. Wiranata is a pleasure to watch, even if it is in mens doubles instead of mens singles. He’s still fully capable of the signature net rolls and deceptive shots.
